Uggy from Utica sends in a speedy rant

only worth feeding children if they ace their standardized tests

Mulvaney has the same attitude as DeVos and Trump: schools and universities aren't here for public service. Public schools are
dumping grounds for kids who landed on the Got To Go list at Success Academy. Why spend guv'mint money on unprofitable kids?

  1. The utilitarian approach simply does not seem to occur to them: the better off poor kids are, the lesser the chance you will meet them in a dark alley, with a knife to your throat. Prosecuting them to the full extent of the law won't help you much after they have cut your throat. I also hear there are these things called moral considerations: what makes a country great involves more than its ability to bully.

  2. There's a video circulating on facebook arguing that Meals on Wheels actually saves money (mostly by preventing/delaying medicaid-funded nursing home care). If that's true for seniors, it's got to be even more true for children.

I also can't think of a more basic definition of a just society (or world) than that it does everything possible to feed the hungry, especially hungry children.

I'm guessing this issue is covered in pretty much every holy book as well.
