Did anyone read Holes? It's for kids. It's not deep. It's not complex. It's not even Harry Potter, but I couldn't put it down. Someone gave it to my son for his 10th birthday, but it was my teen who looked at it first. When he didn't touch a screen for two whole days, I became curious. If you want something very light, I highly recommend it. If for no other reason, read it to figure out why I posted this here ;)
Yes! I read it when my kids were that age. It's well crafted, horrifying (certainly for a child that age), and of course ultimately the good guys win—and boy, does it pull you along.
There's a movie version, but I haven't seen it and I'm not sure I'd want to.
