Google's "Education Evangelist" shares a few thoughts. . . .
The least-watched video from The New York Times 2017 Higher Ed Leaders Forum.
I liked the video that played after this even better. It described Georgia State's efforts to recruit and assist more first-generation and middle- and lower-income students. They were punished for it, too, by U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges guide: their rank plummeted.
Here at ambitious state, we are spending tons of money to attract "better students," that is students who have had advantages. They arrive with outstanding SAT scores--but beside being able to take exams and expect high grades, they are not better prepared to show if they can learn, think, apply and solve problems.
I hate what those damn rankings have done to what was for a long time an honorable mission: to educate first-generation and working class students.
