Having standards. Measuring students. Refusing to budge. [a flashback]
I had a student a couple of semesters ago in my pass/fail writing lab who earned a 45% or something and wanted me to bump him up the 25 percentage points it would take for him to be "passing." He stood in my office and told me over and over what a nice person I was and how much I cared about my students until the writing lab supervisor almost called security.
