Big Hungry
Have you dumbed down your classes during the COVID pandemic?
They don't remember nearly as much material from prerequisite courses as they used to so I have to spend more time reteaching the basics. And here at Medium-Sized University, they are screaming for practice tests. They want a script.
I've had to, since COVID-19 has had a terrible symptom on my students. It's made them all retarded.
This is particularly noticeable for prerequisite courses. I teach third-semester, calculus-based, introductory physics. None of my students appear ever to have heard of anything that went on in first- and second-semester physics.
In my general-ed science course, I am going to cancel in-person classes for the rest of the semester, and have only virtual asynchronous. I recorded a full set of videos for all classes for the semester, so my students can watch them. It sure beats lecturing to between 1 and 7 students in a 27-student class.
Big time

ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, when I was on Zoom or hybrid. I "smarted" them back up, though.

You're pretty sick of hearing them "apologize" for missing class and assuring you they'll watch the recordings, right?
DeleteOur classes are automatically recorded. A lot of the kids who miss class don't watch the recordings. I think it helps breed retardation.
